Looks, by Madeleine George
Meghan is a very overweight student. She is constantly ridiculed and harassed. Aimee is a very thin girl with an eating disorders. The two become friends for the purpose of getting revenge on a student who hurt them both. I found this book to be a little strange! I wasn't going to finish it, but it had such good reviews I thought it must get better! So I kept reading. Some of my initial questions: How could Meghan seriously be around listening in on everybody's conversations and nobody ever notice her there? Why would Aimee give in to become friends with someone who was stalking her? The author writes that it was for revenge on Cara, but shouldn't she have been too freaked out by Meghan? I would have been! Did Aimee's mom succeed in getting her help for her anorexia? What happened with that? Is the moral of the story that revenge is good? Like I said, this book has great reviews. Who has read it? Who can convince me that my first impression of it is wrong. |
