Sweethearts, by Sara Zarr
This was a nice, quick, easy, read. Jennifer Harris and Cameron Quick were the best of friends when they were little. Jennifer knew Cameron had a rough homelife, and when he disppeared without warning she was saddended by the move his family made to another town. When she later heard that he had died she was even more upset. Years later, after she moved to a new school and transformed into "Jenna", Cameron re-appeared. The story takes you through the rekindling of their friendship. It also revisits their childhood- a place Jenna does not wish to go, but that is too important to Cameron not too. Are they still the same people they used to be? Do they still share that bond or has too much changed? I really enjoyed this book. I love happy endings so I was a little surprised by the ending, but it certainly made it less predictable. Do you think Cameron's ending was appropriate? Do you think Jenna handled it as she should? I have my own thoughts but will wait to hear from you! |
