Try these fun art recipes with your child. These should be made with adult supervision.

Finger Paint

3 parts water
1 part cornstarch
powdered tempra

Boil water and remove from heat. Dissolve cornstarch in a lettle cold water. Add mixture to hot water, stirring constantly. Boil until thick and clear. Separate into containers such as small butter tubs and add powdered tempra paint for color. Use finger paint either warm or cold.


Quick Finger Paint 

liquid starch
powdered tempra paint

Mix liquid starch and powdered tempra paint together using your hands. Mix it right on your finger-paint right on your finger-paint paper or in a container. Dig in and let your fingers do the creating.


Goop

cornstarch
water
food coloring

Put cornstarch into a bowl and add just enough water to make it pasty. Add drops of food coloring. Put the mixture on cookie sheets and take it outside to explore  what it can do. Playing with the mixture makes messy, slimy stuff that goes from liquid to solid while you are playing with it.  Enjoy!


Puff paint

1 part flour
1 part salt
1 part waterpowered tempra paint

Mix the water and salt to make a paste. Separate into containers and add different colors of powdered paint to each one. Put the puff paint into squeeze bottles and squeeze onto heavy paper as you would with cake frosting to create a picture. No licking the bowl it is not edible.


Play Dough

1 cup flour
1 cup warm water
1/4 cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon of oil
food coloring

Mix the ingredients in a pan over low heat until a ball forms. Remove from heat, cool, and knead until blended smooth. Store in an airtight container and play dough will last a long time.


Paper-Mache Mix

A. B.
1 part flour 1 part white glue
1 part water or 1 part water
strips of newspaper
a structure

In a bowl mix the two ingredients to a  smooth consistancy.
Build a structure out of cardboard, chicken wire, recycled containes, balloon, etc.. Hold together with masking tape,if necessary. Dip strip of newspaper in the paste mixture. Gently squeeze off excess and place in layers on your object. Give it time to dry. Paint and or decorate with other materials.

 

 



Silly Putty


1 part liquid starch
1 part white glue


Mix starch and glue in a bowl. Use hands and spoons to explore this gooey stuff. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
