Welcome to Reading!

  We look forward to an exciting and rewarding year with your children!  In kindergarten the foundations for phonemic awareness are set within small group settings.  Sounds are reinforced through many fun activities to engage the students.  Together we will be working to provide a comfortable, encouraging environment for all the children. In 1st and 2nd grade Horizons and Soar to Success are programs which are skillfully implemented  along with the use of literature, as with all grades, to encourage the love of reading.

In third, fourth, and fifth grades reading will be taught using Soar to Success by Houghton Mifflin, an intervention program, one of the main resources used which incorporates comprehension strategies as well as decoding skills. A variety of books are shared and many additional techniques will also be used to assist students with their fluency and vocabulary development. Another program, Orton-Gillingham, which involves an auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile approach will be implemented when necessary.

The Title 1 Team consists of Mrs. Lee (math), Mrs. Lupia, Mrs. Ranieri, Mrs. Orr, and Mrs. Williamson.  We are all working together to help your children do their best.
